Another payment for Arrowroot Farmers
Local arrowroot farmers will receive another payment for their lost crop, although there is no factory for them to process their rhizomes.
Speaking on NBC radio Wednesday, Deputy Prime Minister, Montgomery Daniel made this promise to farmers who are still engaged in arrowroot cultivation.
He said that the payment would be made to these farmers on Tuesday, September, 30, 2025, and is based on a Cabinet decision that was taken in 2021, after the arrowroot factory at Owia was destroyed by the volcanic eruptions.
Minister Daniel explained that Cabinet had then approved payment for arrowroot farmers who could not harvest their rhizomes, due to the eruptions and the subsequent loss of the factory.
The minister had suggested that “consideration should be given to the farmers for some level of payment”.
This is to ensure that they continue to cultivate the crop until a new factory is built.
