NDP never built a single house in SVG – Finance Minister

THE IDEA THAT HOUSING is a right, that every Vincentian has a right to safe and secure housing, and that the government has a role to play in ensuring that right, are revolutionary ideas that came into politics through the Unity Labour Party (ULP).

Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Camillo Gonsalves made this point on September, 8,2025 on a ULP Speaks radio programme, during which he also noted that education and housing are two transformative policies on which the government is focussed.

Gonsalves, who is also the parliamentary representative for East St. George said that although housing and education are transformative, the New Democratic Party (NDP), while in power, never had these areas of focus.

“…the NDP never built a single house. I find it laughable when they go around telling people ‘why they build June house before your house?’…the nerve of these people, they spent 17 years in office, they never built a single house…,” Gonsalves reiterated. He said the ULP administration has built over 10,000 houses, and repaired thousands more, and the NDP politicians and supporters are spreading division about housing.
