Villa woman in hospital after being stabbed over 20 times
Police are said to be carrying out investigations into the stabbing of Rafia Sardine, a 20-year-old female of Villa. Reports are that Sardine, a FLOW employee, arrived home on Saturday at around 7:10 p.m. and was attacked, allegedly by her ex-boyfriend.
The alleged attacker is said to have been dressed in a white hazardous material (HAZMAT) suit, and wore blue latex gloves. It is alleged that the man gained access through a window. Following the attack, Sardine was taken to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH) where she was treated for 26 stab wounds, said to have been administered by a pair of scissors and a pocket knife. The woman remains at the hospital.
A 23-year-old police officer reportedly went to the Calliaqua Police Station the same night of the attack and was detained after saying certain things to his colleagues there. The alleged attacker and Sardine are said to have been in a relationship that ended close to two months ago. SEARCHLIGHT understands that an officer, who is assisting police with investigations into the incident, was being interviewed on Monday. No one had been charged up to the time of closure of this publication.
Meanwhile, the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF), said it has taken decisive steps in response to recent incidents involving police officers and civilians. Investigators have been deployed, evidence is being preserved, witness canvassing is underway, and interim administrative measures are in effect where required, the police said in a release.
“We are following established investigative protocols to deliver impartial, lawful, and timely outcomes. Rest assured, we are acting decisively and within the law,” the police release also stated.
“Our primary duty is to the people of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines: your safety and the fair administration of justice will be protected without compromise,” it added.
