MRI-6 donates over $70,000 for school meals for vulnerable students
Several secondary schools and special needs institutions across St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) have received $5,000 donations towards meals for students from a local philanthropic group that goes by the name MRI-6.
The assistance by way of cheques, was handed over on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 to a total of 11 secondary schools and four special needs institutions at a ceremony at the Kingstown Methodist Church Hall. The schools are: Troumaca Ontario Secondary, Central Leeward Secondary, Campden Park Secondary, Bethel High, Dr. J.P Eustace Secondary, St Martin’s Secondary, Thomas Saunders Secondary, West St George Secondary, St Clair Dacon Secondary, North Union Secondary and Sandy Bay Secondary.
Also receiving cheques were four educational institutions that cater to special needs students, these being the Fair Hall Primary school, and School for Children with Special Needs, Kingstown and Georgetown, as well as the Bequia Sunshine School.
Non-educational organisations also received donations from MRI-6 as well. These organisations are: Youth Dental Care Initiative, the Catholic Soup Kitchen, Mental Health Rehabilitation Center, the Lewis Punnett Home, and the National Society of and for the Blind. The entity, comprising six individuals, come together each year to put on events, the proceeds of which are donated to worthy causes. Their name derives from the first donation which was made in 2009, when an MRI machine was handed over to the country’s health system.
Senior Education Officer, Elspeth Adams, said that the ceremony was not only meant for schools to receive support, but to acknowledge and celebrate the ongoing generosity of MRI-6, which is a charitable organization comprising committed citizens who continue to show their unwavering dedication to the nation’s children.
“Over the years, MRI-6 has demonstrated what it truly means to give back quietly, consistently and with genuine care for those who need it most.”
