VincyJewels still queens of OECS Netball
ST VINCENT and the Grenadines’ Vincy Jewels retained the Gloria Ballantyne Trophy, symbol of netball supremacy in the just concluded 5th ECCB International Netball Series, despite losing to Grenada by one goal (64-63) in their final game on Sunday, August 31, 2025.
In a post-game interview, coach of the SVG Netball Team, Natasha Baptiste, said, “Netball was the winner tonight”.
Sunday’s loss to Grenada broke the champions’ winning streak dating back to 2024. Despite the loss, St Vincent and the Grenadines emerged with 16 points to retain the Gloria Ballantyne Trophy with a better goal average as the second and third placed teams, also lost one game each, hence, the goal average came into play.
Grenada led the Vincy Jewels in all quarters, 16-9, 33-28, 52-43, and 64 -63 to win by the narrowest of margins, bringing back memories of the 2023 tournament in Antigua and Barbuda, when SVG lost the title to Grenada 34-33.
Leading Grenada’s charge was goal shooter Lottysha Cato, who scored 56 goals from 61 attempts, and goal-attack, Celina Brown, with eight goals from 10 attempts.
