Touch to mark 40 without front man

THE BAND TOUCH, plans to soon mark its fortieth year as a musical outfi t- but will be without its lead man, Godfrey Dublin. Dublin, lead singer and lead guitarist of Touch, passed away at his home at Arnos Vale last Friday, August 22, 2025 after a battle with cancer.

“Godfrey was the person who brought joy to the band, he was the balance- jovial,” band leader, Jules Williams told SEARCHLIGHT.

“ When everything start going down, Godfrey would crack a joke to bring things back to normal.”

While individuals within the closeknit outfit “saw signs of Godfrey deteriorating in his voice maybe about a year ago,” it was not until earlier this year that they realised things were a lot more serious than they had initially thought.

And when the gravity of his situation dawned on them Godfrey, known to his colleagues as “Freemus”, was “basically put under arrest” as members of the group insisted on getting their hands on his medical documents. The results were not good.

“That is the point where we got broken,” Jules related.

Godfrey’s voice was the band’s road march gold mine which helped Touch to numerous road march titles in the 1980’s and ‘90’s belting such numbers as ‘To take away’ with which Godfrey won the OECS Soca Monarch title in 2000.
