Cousin weeps at funeral of Fancy man who died in house fire
A close relative of deceased Fancy resident Carlos Stay, regrets not spending more time with him to listen to his concerns.
Stay died on Thursday, September 5, 2024, after starting a fire in a room of his house. A post mortem examination which was conducted on the body on September 6, concluded that the 67 year old man died due to asphyxia caused by inhalation injuries, which were caused by thermal injury.
The former contractor and farmer was buried last Saturday, September 14, following a funeral service at the Fancy Pentecostal Church.
While delivering the eulogy, Stay’s first cousin, Fred Stay, wept openly as he recalled his last encounter with his beloved cousin.
Fred resides in Campden Park, but still makes the long journey to Fancy to visit his family and friends.
He cried as he recalled a recent occasion when he went to Fancy and did not spend much time with Carlos.
Stay said it was already late that evening when he passed by Carlos.
Apparently, Carlos had seen when his cousin arrived in the village.
Stay recalled when he passed by Carlos, the deceased said, “I was looking for you long time”.
Stay said his cousin gave him some things and he left because “it was already late.”
Unable to hold back the tears, Stay cried, “I could have seen the disappointment when I just left.”
“Carlos wanted to speak to me, but I drove off. I told myself I would see Carlos another time, but it never happened”.
“There is no more Carlos, I can’t speak to him any more,” Stay cried.
The Campden Park resident said he feels sad about how he spent his time on that day, and did “not spend more time to listen to what Carlos had to say to me. Please forgive me”,Stay pleaded in his emotional delivery of the eulogy.
He described Carlos as loving and free handed.
