Third placed Evan Scott says he was aiming for top five

Evan Eddison Scott was awakened at 2:00 a.m. with the news that he placed third in the 2024 Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment (CPEA).

When the sleepiness and the initial shock wore off the student of the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic school was ecstatic.

“I was asleep, and my parents woke me…I was in shock because I was sleepy…I was very happy when it finally hit me,” Evan told SEARCHLIGHT.

“I was aiming for top five, and I achieved it and that made me very happy,” he added. “I would like to thank God for giving me the knowledge and intelligence to do so,” Evan said via WhatsApp from vacation overseas.

The Questelles resident scored 97.4%, which is 487 out of 500. He had 70 out of 75 for Language Arts; 72 out of 75 for Mathematics; 74 out of 75 for Science;

and 73 out of 75 for Social Studies.

The son of Dekron and Edleen Scott said in preparation for the examinations, he did a lot of past papers, attended lessons, listened to advice from his parents and was quizzed in the various subject areas.

“I trusted in God, and my father always told me to push through as there is light at the end of every tunnel and working hard pays off.” Evan added though, that he did not neglect his extracurricular activities of Karate and Cricket during his preparations.

Asked about the day of the exams Evan said the tests were “quite manageable” because of the amount of past papers he had done.

“I knew how the questions were structured and how to answer them,” he explained, adding that God, his parents, teachers and family members were instrumental in his success.

Evan is looking forward to attending the St Vincent Grammar School, “as I want to follow in my dad’s footstep, and it’s the top school”.

The lad wants to become an entrepreneur in the field of Information, Communication Technology (ICT), owning and operating a company that does digital and web applications.

His favourite subject is Mathematics which he finds interesting.

Evan’s mother thanks God for blessing her son with the ability to achieve, and for giving his father and herself the wisdom to raise and guide a child.

She also is grateful to family members who helped him focus, and the teachers from Grade K right up to Grade 6.

“We are very proud,” Evan’s mom said.
