Man charged with Park Hill double murder

One man has been charged with the murders of two Park Hill residents whose charred bodies were discovered on April 8, 2024, in the back of a house where one of them lived.

Aldon Thomas appeared at the Serious Offences Court before Senior Magistrate, Colin John yesterday, April 11, 2024, charged that between April 6 and 9 at Park Hill, with malice aforethought he caused the death of Brenton “Marvin” Barker of Park Hill.

Thomas also was charged that between April 6 and 9 at Park Hill, with malice aforethought he caused the death of Calvert “Vert” Smart.

The charges are indictable so Thomas was not required to plea. The Senior Magistrate informed Thomas that since the allegations are serious, he would be remanded into custody. However, as the Senior Magistrate was doing this, he observed Thomas’s lawyer shaking his head and therefore asked the lawyer if he had anything to say. Michael Wyllie, the lawyer, responded by claiming that the police has no evidence against Thomas, they just wanted to make sure that Thomas remains in custody.

“…There is absolutely no evidence against this guy…”, Wyllie added.

“When we get to that bridge, we’ll cross it,” was the response of the Senior Magistrate.

Prosecutor, Renrick Cato, informed John that the Prosecution intends to call 15 witnesses to testify in the trial.

The matter was adjourned to July 15, 2024.
