Shatta is Georgetown Soca Monarch

ISHATTA “SHATTA” DASILVA is making waves and setting trends with his 2023 Soca hit “Long fuh see town”.

Last Saturday, June 17, the up and coming Soca artiste won the Georgetown Soca Monarch competition, his second crown for the season, having already done the same in the 2023 North Leeward Soca Monarch competition two weeks ago.

DaSilva is part of the Jussbusscamp Records camp which, like the new artiste, is setting trends for Vincy Mas 2023.

Members of this musical fraternity were also second and third in the weekend competition with Geovanni “Sluwwy” Bascombe, performing “Maniac” placing second, and Kahn “Flight” Haynes with “Farmer” coming in third.

Last year’s winner, the veteran Keith “Grabba Finesse” Charles was fourth this year with “Under Rum”, one of his six releases for Vincy Mas 2023.

Last weekend’s competition saw 49 local Soca artistes taking the stage at Sea View Gardens in Georgetown.

The competition was split into two segments with 27 of the 49 artistes performing in the first segment of the show.

The artiste with the most points when the first segment was completed was Darrell “Flame” Simmons who sang “Witch Doctor”.

Flame had the opportunity to move into segment two to compete for the EC$8,000 grand prize and the chance to be crowned Georgetown Soca Monarch but decided to take option one, which was to go home with the

segment one winnings of EC$500 cash, drinks, and packages that will allow him to participate free of cost in certain activities of Vincy Mas 2023.

Also, during the event, 15 local producers were honoured.

They were Islandshack, Jussbus, Megawatts, Stumpi D Boss, Kubiyachi, Fourth Dimension, Lectric, Stamina Smurff, Digital Empire, Stereo Damage, Samwhick, Mason, Hunter Flow, Power Jay and Radio Vybes.
