Searchlight’s duo shines at National Sports Award

EDWARD NEWMAN copped the Sports Photograph of the Year award and Rohan Thomas, the Sports Journalist of the Year, at the 2017 National Sports Awards, staged last Saturday night at the auditorium at the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College, at Villa.

Newman nailed the accolade with his submission of a photo taken during the CONCACAF Under-17 female football match between St Vincent and the Grenadines, held last August, at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.

THIS PHOTO earned Edward Newman the Sports Photograph of the Year Award at the 2017 National Sports Awards last Saturday.

His entry into national sports photography began in July, 2010, when Newman started using his lens to give a closer look at the sporting action for the SEARCHLIGHT newspaper.

Since, Newman has grown to become one of the stand-out photographers at local sporting events, as he endeavours to capture the best shots with his camera.

Meanwhile, for Thomas, it was his seventh such title in the last eight hosting of the National Sports Awards.
