Tyres slashed on two vehicles at Speaker’s home

Tyres slashed on two vehicles at Speaker’s home

Speaker of the House of Assembly Jomo Thomas has described as “a bit disconcerting” the slashing of the tyres of two vehicles that he was using on Friday.

Thomas, who lives in Campden Park, told SEARCHLIGHT that he awoke on Saturday morning to find that two tyres of a car{{more}} that he had rented from Ricky’s Rental were slashed, while the tyres of his own SUV were also damaged.

According to Thomas, his SUV was in the garage getting repaired, so he rented a car for a week. He said that he got back his personal vehicle on Friday and parked it in his yard, along with the rental, after returning from Kingstown around 11.30 p.m. Friday.

“I woke up Saturday morning and going to the (rental) car, saw it looked leaned, and then I realized the front tyre was down. I said I didn’t feel this coming in and then I look and saw the back tyre down also, and I said that this had to be deliberate, because I would be the unluckiest man in the world to get two flat tyres at the same time,” said Thomas.

He said that when he examined his personal vehicle, he saw that it was also damaged, as someone took a sharp object and ripped and stabbed at the tyres.

“…it is a bigger vehicle, the tyres are much sturdier and even though they ripped it, it did not burst,” said Thomas, who added that he knows that it was a deliberate act, because there were two other cars parked in the yard that did not belong to him and nothing was done to them.

“I don’t know if it’s political, but what I know is that I am not messing with nobody’s woman,” said Thomas with a bit of humour, remarking that the incident has not scared him, but he would like to know whom he has offended.

“…to the person who may have done this, let me know what your problem is,” said Thomas. “It’s more than annoying; it’s a little disconcerting, because why would somebody do this?” he added

He said that when he got home at 11.30 p.m., some of his neighbours were sitting outside and another neighbour said that he came home at about 12.30 a.m. and everything was alright.

“…so this may have happened between 12.30 a.m. and 5 a.m. It’s a little disconcerting, because clearly somebody has a problem with me and I don’t know if it’s politics.”

Thomas, who was the Unity Labour Party (ULP) candidate in the last general elections, having run and lost against the New Democratic Party’s (NDP) Nigel ‘Nature’ Stephenson, seems to be under attack.

On two separate occasions – October 16, 2015 and February 5, 2016, his South Leeward constituency office was set on fire. On Monday, March 7, Questelles resident Ricardo Samuel pleaded not guilty to starting the fire that was set at the ULP South Leeward constituency office on February 5, 2016.
