15-year-old among attempted robbery accused

Three young men, Darron Shallow, 19, Clerk of Belmont; Jolarney David, 21, Mechanic of Hopewell, and a 15-year-old boy have been charged in connection with the foiled robbery attempt which took place last Saturday morning at Villa.{{more}}

Four masked men turned up at ‘Chewee’s Chill and Grill’ at Villa at about 3:10 a.m., in an alleged robbery attempt.

Proprietor of the entertainment spot, Truman “Chewee” Quashie, shot one of the would-be robbers in the head with a .38 special when he [the gunman] brandished a shotgun. The others fled the scene.

Shallow, David and the 15-year-old boy were subsequently apprehended and charged jointly for having in their possession a firearm with intent to commit an offence,(2) For having in their possession a firearm without a licence issued under the Firearm Act,(3) For attempting to commit the offence of robbery,(4) For having in their possession one (1) round of 12 gauge shot gun cartiage without a licence issued under the Firearm Act, at Villa on 23. 07.11.

They were remanded in custody and are set to re-appear in court next Tuesday for bail review.

As person flocked outside the Serious Offences Court to get a glimpse of the young men, parents and relatives of the accused hurled remarks at journalists waiting to take the young men’s photographs.

As the accused made their way to the police vehicle, parked close to the entrance of the courthouse, one parent shouted, “All yo hide alyo face; Alyo ain’t kill nobody…”.

Before the accused were brought downstairs, one man said: “I go tek dey (journalists) camera and mash dem up…”

Another woman said: “Alyo ain’t teking no photo here today. Why alyo dor go tek photo of the dead man and put it in de papers…”

As the youngsters were being led away, some persons gathered outside laughed at journalists because the accused were able to hide their faces.

“Ah glad dem ain’t get the photo…,” one person yelled.
