Nikianna Williams, Miss West Kingstown, settled for the first runner-up while Shellisa Nanton, Miss North Windward, was adjudged second runner-up.

Jovonne John, Miss South Leeward, may have considered herself a bit unfortunate not to have clinched one of the top spots, having swayed the crowd for most of the contest.

In the individual categories, Rusheder May, Miss Marriaqua, copped the Miss Photogenic title, while Miss Congeniality was captured by Nikianna Williams, Miss West Kingstown.

The contestants were judged in four categories; Sportswear, which was won by Shellisa Nanton; Nanton and Nikianna Williams shared the Best Talent category. Jovonne John won the Best Evening Wear category; and Jasmine James, the eventual queen of the night, took the Best Interview category.

When SEARCHLIGHT contacted James yesterday, she said that the victory was yet to set in.

She said Saturday night’s event marked her entrance into the world of pageantry. James declared that she was full of confidence and walked away expecting to be crowned Miss Unity Youth.

Looking back at her performance, James said that she thought that most aspects of her performance went well.

She said that she was a bit disappointed in her performance in the talent category, saying that nerves had taken over.

As for her plans to enter other pageants, more specifically the Miss SVG show, James said that she has given some thought to it, but will have to put those ideas aside as she recently received her acceptance letter to begin pursuing a degree in Finance at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill campus, Barbados.

Her entry into the Miss Unity Youth pageant was spurred on by members of her community and she told SEARCHLIGHT that she would like to thank all those that supported her, especially her fellow band members from the Sion Hill Euphonium.

The other contestants on the night were Phylisa Dougan, Central Leeward; Neconia Samuel, North Central Windward; Maderna Cupid, West St George; Kerlicer James, South Central Windward; Shanette Culzac, Central Kingstown and Daniel Soleyn, South Windward. (DD)
