According to Police, Zoya Garraway died as a result of a slash to the throat.
The tragedy occurred around 7 a.m.
Amelia Horne, a neighbour who lives a short distance from where the incident occurred, told SEARCHLIGHT that she was standing in her kitchen when she heard the child’s father, whose name was given as Kursie Garraway, cry out.
Horne said that she ran down and saw the man holding the body of the couple’s only child.
“I started crying,” she said.
Overcome by fear, Horne said that she immediately began informing other nearby residents of what had taken place.
She also told Searchlight that she saw the deceased child’s mother, Susan Garraway standing in the porch.
Residents told the media that Susan Garraway stood at the scene of the crime until the authorities arrived.
Horne described the deceased as a sweet and innocent child.
“She used to talk to everybody; she couldn’t do anybody any harm so I can’t see the reason why tsomebody had to do something like that,” she told SEARCHLIGHT.
Patricia Davis also shared similar sentiments saying that she was a nice child.
It was often customary for Zoya to come over and play with her children, Davis said.
She was of the opinion that this was by far the worse event that occurred in the area.
“I saw the child and the blood, and it trouble me,â another irate resident told SEARCHLIGHT.
She sympathized with the little girl and also described her as a nice child.
“I am a mother, I have 10 children,â the resident continued.
She added that news of the tragedy had had a serious impact on her.
Police confirmed that Susan Garraway was assisting them with the investigations.
Up to press time no charges had been laid.
Yesterday’s tragedy comes days after the news that a three-year-old infant, Akelia Pompey of Vermont was severely beaten by her stepfather.
In that case, the infant sustained a broken arm and wounds to her face and head. (DD)
