Up to press time Wednesday, January 5, investigators were still trying to determine the identity of the partially decomposed body found close to the main road at Indian Bay earlier that day.{{more}}

Residents and commuters in the area alerted police at about 8:45am after the smell of death spread through the area and the lifeless body of a black male was discovered in a small field not too far from the entrance to the Indian Bay beach.

The man, dressed in a green t-shirt and navy blue pants was lying face down in the field.

Unable to ascertain an identity at the scene, police at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) indicated that they are checking their missing persons files, with hopes of assertaining the identity of the deceased person.

Up to press time, the cause of death was also not known.

Wednesday’s sad discovery is one of two to have taken place in the new year.

On Sunday, January 2, the body of Robelto ‘Belto’ Diaz, one of the more popular homeless men to roam the streets of Kingstown, was discovered on Bay Street at around 7am.

Police do not suspect foul play in the death of Diaz, said to be in his mid-fifties, formerly of New Montrose.

Several dead bodies were discovered around St. Vincent last year, including that of 49-year-old Sonny Henry, whose body was discovered near his home at Argyle in January.

Sion Hill resident Cedric Solomon was also found dead in January 2010 in the Prospect/ Diamond area, and the body of a female burnt beyond recognition was found in Argyle in August.
