DNA tests results could soon finger serial rapist
If the DNA tests prove the police correct, Vincentians may soon get to learn who the serial rapist is.{{more}}
A reliable source in the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force told SEARCHLIGHT that some persons have been picked up by the police for questioning in connection with the series of rapes in the Arnos Vale/Calliaqua area and their DNA will be sent overseas for testing soon.
While investigations continue in the matter, our well-placed source said that the police are doing everything within their power to nab the perpetrator or perpetrators. However, he stated that there is one major glitch that is hindering progress. He said that persons are unable to get a detailed description of the rapist/rapists. âThe only thing that we are getting is that he is well built and wears a mask,â he stated.
Another well-placed source said that they are always improving on their strategies to help with their investigations. âWe are not going to leave any stone unturned. We are doing more patrolling and disguising ourselves even more in communities, but we have not been able to lay a hand on the person as yet,â he said.
Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police Keith Miller is appealing to the rapist to turn himself in: âI want to appeal to that reckless man to give himself up to the police now.â
Miller made the appeal while addressing the 27th passing out parade of recruits at the Old Montrose Police Station last Thursday, August 21. âDespite our various decoys and strategies, this man continues to operate at his own risk. The public also has their nets out for you,â the top cop warned.
The Commissioner thanked citizens for their valiant efforts in trying to apprehend the man who has put fear in many women all over the country. âWe thank you for your support. I know that residents are eager to have him caught, but we beg for your patience as we review our tactics to capture him,â Miller said.
Police believe that the same man may have committed similar crimes in 2006, when SEARCHLIGHTâs December 8, 2006 issue reported that a serial rapist was on the loose.
