2008 A’Level exam results outstanding
Aâ Level students throughout St. Vincent and the Grenadines can rest easy now that their examination results have been released. As with the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE), the grades achieved indicate that pass rates have increased significantly in most subjects.{{more}} That is, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Education on August 20th, 2008.
This year, there was a candidate entry of 494 – of which 370 came from the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College (SVGCC), and 124 private candidates. In 2007 there were 469 candidates; the majority of whom entered through the SVGCC.
Records from the Ministry of Education show that whilst.
General Paper has maintained its pass rate of 100%, Art & Design, Accounting, Biology, English Literature, Geography, History and Psychology have â…recorded pass rates in excess of 80%â, Chemistry has moved up from 56% to 75% and physics has gone up to 80%, having only achieved a pass rate of 61% in 2007. Business Studies has also shown significant improvement.
Not only have pass rates gone up, but the grades attained have also been improved. In 2007, 14 students gained Grade Aâs, 42 gained Bâs and 77 received Câs. In comparison, in 2008 there are 27 student with grade Aâs, 48 students with Bâs and 82 achieving Câs.
âThe number of subject offerings accessed by students this year has been reduced,â stated Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education Laura Browne. This can be attributed to the fact that CAPE has taken over some of the subjects previously offered by Cambridge (Advanced Level), and that students are opting for CAPE subjects over the Aâ Level equivalents.
