So said Deputy Prime Minister Sir Louis Straker as he welcomed the engineers, technicians and explosive experts to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, during a brief ceremony at the E T Joshua Airport.

Surrounded by other government ministers and officials, Sir Louis called on all Vincentians, including opposition members and supporters, to embrace and support the airport project, which is projected to be completed by late 2011.

Dubbed the ‘Chatoyer -Che Contingent’, the professionals, along with a team of Vincentians, will begin the surveying and preparation for earthworks.

While here the Cubans will also train the locals in various areas.

Chief engineer of the project, Leonardo “The Professor” Perez, indicated that everything is in place for operations to begin on August 13th, and in the end, turn the vision of the airport into reality.

Cuban charge d’affaires Alina Aldama, who was speaking on behalf of the Cuban embassy, said that the Cuban Government is delighted with the satisfaction felt by the Vincentian people for the contribution being made by her country towards the airport.

Aldama stated that the Chatoyer-Che Contingent is another historic moment, in a number of events taking place within the upcoming weeks.
