Retiree found dead

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of retired Chief Librarian Lorna Small, whose partly decomposed body was found in a shallow grave at the Belair Cemetery last Tuesday evening.{{more}}

Persons living in the vicinity of the cemetery complained of a foul smell emanating from the area and called the police. A search by investigators revealed the body of a woman, and efforts to identify the body began.

Meanwhile, Small’s family members were becoming worried after they didn’t hear from her since last week Thursday, April 17th. Her silver-grey Nissan vehicle was also missing.

Small’s brother, former Deputy Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, Errol Allen, searched her house at Queen’s Drive and another house at Indian Bay on Wednesday morning.

Checks were also made with friends in Bequia, with whom she often stayed when she visited.

A report was then made to the Criminal Investigations Department. The police suggested that Small’s family take a look at the body that had been found the night before in Belair.

The family positively identified the body as being that of Small.

Small’s vehicle, PJ937 was later found in the Top Belair area, and has been impounded at the Central Police Station in Kingstown. At press time, one man was assisting the police with their investigations.

Small, a widow, who was in her early seventies, was the mother of Rosanne Small-Morgan, who resides in the United States of America.

She also the sister of community activist, farmer and author Oscar Allen, and aunt of noted attorney, Andrew Cummings QC.
