Q&C: Roadway to the future

When Charles Forbes decided to pack it up after years in the “Concrete Jungle” of New York, he wanted to make a difference when he returned to his native St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

With the official opening of the Roadway Diner in Georgetown tomorrow, Forbes will see part of his dream realized, a dream he shares with his son Quincy under the name Q&C Enterprise.{{more}}

Forbes took the bold initiative to open a restaurant and wholesale department in the rural town, because he saw the need for the services in an area which he believes is on the ‘cusp’ of a financial explosion.

“Georgetown is gonna come back.” Forbes stated. “With the Diagnostic centre on stream, and the multi-purpose complex on the way, this town is going to be bright again. And, Q&C Enterprise will be here when that happens.”

Located across from the area’s thriving nightclub Spotlight Stadium, Roadway Diner promises to provide quality, comfort, taste and care to those entering its doors.

The smell of callaloo soup, breadfruit and blackfish, pizza, stews and other local dishes greets patrons as they enter for a bit of the Roadway experience, which the staff of four seems more than happy to provide.

The restaurant comfortably seats more than fifty persons, and is also equipped with a VIP area.

Forbes also plans to host karaoke evenings in the near future, and will soon provide catering for weddings, birthdays and after funeral functions.

The enterprise experience does not stop at the diner. Their wholesale department caters for most of the business places in the vicinity, and a mini hardware store and apartment complex is also in the works.

Although Forbes sees a bright future not only for his ventures and the town on a whole, he firmly believes individuals in the community are the ones who will make the resurgence possible.

“We need to get up and shake a leg,” he said. “We all have a part to play and need to do the things necessary for this place (Georgetown) to be as successful as it used to be.

Tomorrow’s grand opening of the Roadway Diner begins at 2 p.m. (JJ)
