Clouden loses battle after car accident

Safia Amin is in Barbados anxiously awaiting the birth of her child but when the baby is born it will be fatherless because its father has taken his last breath.

Gary Clouden died Tuesday at the Milton Cato Memorial hospital, ten days after being involved in an accident and losing consciousness.{{more}}

He was one of seven people involved in the horrific accident that occurred on Sunday, September 3 at Gordon Yard .

He and his friends were returning from a night out at the Heineken Synergy DJ competition at Richmond when the jeep in which they were traveling went over a precipice. Clouden and three others were hospitalized.

While the others received minor injuries Clouden paid the ultimate price, his life. He would have turned 23 in November.

Speaking to SEARCHLIGHT from the British Virgin Islands where she is residing, eldest sister Saddia was still battling with the news of her brother’s death.

“I knew things were bad after the accident but I was still hoping that he would pull through,” she said.

She remembered him as being very funny and always being on the go. She last spoke to him a week before the accident and he told her that he was missing her.

His mother, Kenlyn Clouden of Block 2000, is a former national basketball and netball player who is also a popular coach and referee in both sports. Gary was the third of Kenlyn’s six children.

Kenlyn told SEARCHLIGHT that she believes that it must have been her son’s time to die but she wondered why it was that he alone suffered such a tragic fate.

“Seven persons in a jeep, it goes over a cliff, every body else lives but he dies,” she pondered.

Gary lived at Edinboro with his grandmother, Venita Clouden. She described her grandson as very helpful and said that his death leaves a huge void in her life.

His father, Elsworth Rodgers also died a couple months ago.

At press time funeral arrangements were still to be made.
