Ottley Hall man bonded for stealing hat from mannequin
A resident of Ottley Hall, who stole a 75 dollar hat from a “tall fake human statue” in a clothing store, then sold it for $2.00 was bonded and ordered to pay compensation.
Mark Solomon, 34, appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court before Senior Magistrate Tammika Mckenzie, on March 4, 2026 where he pleaded guilty that on January 5, 2026 at Grenville Street, Kingstown, he stole one white SOX baseball cap valued EC$75.00, the property of Jenille Garrick of Edinboro.
The facts are that sales clerk Kereina McDonald, and other employees displayed a mannequin dressed in various outfits at the entrance of the store. On the date of the offence at about 1:22 p.m, McDonald was sitting at the front of the store next to the cashier’s desk with her head bent browsing through her cellphone.
McDonald heard Solomon’s voice asking for a dollar. She looked up and saw Solomon standing outside the entrance of the Fun Size store, and told him “no”. McDonald then continued to browse her cellphone but Solomon stayed at the store’s entrance. A few seconds later, Solomon stepped into the store and snatched a white SOX baseball cap valued at EC$75.00 from the mannequin.
McDonald saw Solomon running from the entrance and went to see what was happening. As she approached the entrance, McDonald saw that the white cap which was on the mannequin’s head was missing. She reported the matter to the police. CCTV footage of the incident was obtained, and an investigation was launched.
