Man assaulted, chopped in home in wee hours of morning

A charge of wounding, allegedly inflicted in the wee hours of the morning in the victim’s home, was laid against a 21-year-old yesterday at the Serious Offences Court.

Two charges were indictably laid against Glen resident Enrique Charles for entering the home of one Dave Williams on November 28, armed with a cutlass and, on the same day, unlawfully and maliciously wounding Williams.

Prosecutor Adolphus Delplesche objected to bail for Charles, stating that Williams was currently warded at the male surgical ward of the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital nursing a cutlass chop to his forehead. He further stated that the medical personnel at the hospital had described the wound as a serious injury, and that Williams may have lost one of his eyes.

The prosecutor requested that the accused be remanded in custody for at least seven days, so that the necessary observations may be carried out on the patient. He added that the perpetrator in the matter is said to have entered the dwelling house of Williams at around 4:30 a.m. on November 28.

Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne upheld the submission of the prosecutor, on the basis that the victim in the matter was in the hospital with a serious injury.

Charles will next appear at the Serious Offences Court on December 11, when the matter will be revisited.(KR)
