Rock Gutter PI to resume on October 10

Four students have already taken the stand as a Preliminary Inquiry into the Rock Gutter incident began at the Serious Offences Court on Tuesday, September 27.

Ruth-Ann Bowens, Terrill Thomas, Tayana Bowens and Onique Michael are all survivors of the incident in which minibus HL636, driven by Ravannan Nanton, ran off the road and plunged into the sea at Rock Gutter, Fancy, in January last year.{{more}}

Jamalie and Jamal Edwards, Racquel Ashton, Glenroy Michael and Annique Alexander perished in the accident, while Chanstacia Stay and Simonique Ballantyne were never found and are presumed dead.

On Tuesday, December 3, 2015, a month-long Coroner’s Inquest into the incident revealed that the persons responsible for the minivan that plunged into the sea on January 12, 2015, killing seven students, had been given several warnings to take the vehicle off the road.

Nanton and his conductor, Ehud Myers, along with head teacher of the Fancy Government School Colbert Bowens were charged for the incident.

However, on May 3 this year, charges were withdrawn from Bowens, leaving Nanton and Myers to face the law.

The Preliminary Inquiry is expected to resume on October 10 and 11, 2016.
