In the early hours of Wednesday morning, Station Sergeant Nolan Dallaway led police officers of the Narcotics Department and the

Rapid Response Unit (RRU)to the home of one ‘Bradley Greaves’ to execute a search warrant.

However, police say that instead of meeting Greaves, they met his brother Derek Minors who consented to a search.

Minors was taken to his bedroom, where a transparent ziplock bag was found on a table and police say he replied, “Is just a small smoke I have there.”

Officers continued their search and found a second ziplock bag, to which police told the court Minors stated was, “Just weed to smoke.”

The search continued and a black container was found on a shelf in the storeroom of the house, which Minors denied owning.

When Minors appeared before the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, he faced three separate charges of drug possession. He was charged that on Wednesday, August 10 at Villa he had in his possession 155, 24 and 173 grams of cannabis with intent to supply to another.

During mitigation, Minors’ lawyer Grant Connell told the court that his client, the father of a two-year-old child and a supervisor of a supermarket, was remorseful and fully cooperated with officers.

He further stated that his client is asthmatic and used the plant for medicinal purposes.

“It is not a sin; it is an offence in law,” Connell said, adding that the marijuana in question was valued at EC$440.

Magistrate Bertie Pompey took into consideration Minors’ guilty plea and the fact that he was cooperative and had no record before the court.

The businessman was fined $500 for the possession of 173 grams; failure to pay the fine would result in a two-month prison term.

The supermarket manager was reprimanded and discharged for the two other charges.(AS)
