Duo fined $250 each for drug possession

When David Browne of Chateaubelair and Marcelus Baptiste of Sandy Bay appeared before the Serious Offences Court on Wednesday, Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias referred to them as virgins to the law.{{more}}

This was due to the fact that neither man had previous convictions at the Serious Offences Court.

On May 24, police constable Simmons arrested Browne at Nine Steps in Rose Place for having in his possession one rock of cocaine.

“Officer, is just a small smoke; give me a chance,” said Browne to Simmons upon the discovery of the cocaine.

On the same day, Baptiste was arrested, also at Rose Place, and charged for having in his possession one rock of cocaine. The cocaine was found in his right pants pocket and concealed in a Krazy Glue container.

Both men pleaded guilty to the charges and were fined $250 each, to be paid forthwith. Browne-Matthias also made an order for the destruction of the drugs.(CA)
