Trinidadians given marching orders for entering state illegally

Two nationals of Trinidad and Tobago were yesterday sent packing after they pleaded guilty to two separate immigration charges.{{more}}

David George and Akeel Chadband, both of Tobago, appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court, charged with being prohibited immigrants, entering the state by boat without a passport and disembarking without the permission of an immigration officer.

The incident took place on February 13, at Union Island.

For entering the state without a passport, magistrate Carla James fined the men $200 each forthwith, or they would spend seven days in jail.

On the second charge, she ordered that they be removed from the country.

According to the facts, on February 14, police officers from the Rapid Response Unit (RRU) went to the home of Benjamin Harvey to execute a search warrant, where they met the men.

They told officers that they arrived via boat and did not clear immigration.(KW)
