Rogers, a resident of New Montrose, was sentenced yesterday at the Serious Offences Court by magistrate Zoila Ellis-Browne. He pleaded guilty to entering the Villamar food processing company at Queen’s Drive on two separate occasions this year.

According to the facts, the owner of Villamar secured her business place on June 20 and left the country for the weekend. On Monday, June 23, when the manager arrived at work, he noticed that the place was ransacked.

It was discovered that Rogers stole EC$900, US$175, cattle skin, padlocks, a door panel, a pair of scissors, knives and seasoning amounting to over $500.

Following his first break-in, Rogers returned to the business place between June 25 and 26 and stole $69.34 in coins and and a blue winter jacket valued at US$80.

Following police investigations, Rogers was picked up after footage from surveillance camera recordings at Villamar showed him carrying out the acts.

SEARCHLIGHT also understands that on the second occasion, a sign had been left in the office stating that there was no more money.

In his police statement, Rogers said he replied to the statement by writing “My baby need the money.”

Earlier at the court, Rogers pleaded guilty to charges of assault and wounding and was sentenced to nine and six months respectively.

He was charged with stabbing Rahim Williams of New Montrose with a knife and assaulting him on February 6, 2013, at New Montrose.

According to the facts, at about 10:50 a.m., Williams was at a shop when Rogers came there and asked why he (Williams) had hit his mother.

The court heard that Rogers began firing stabs at Williams, resulting in Williams sustaining a stab wound to his right hand.

Williams managed to flee the scene and reported the matter to the police.

In court, Rogers admitted that he “kicked up” Williams after he had heard about the alleged incident involving his mother.

“I go by the shop with me knife and start to kick he up…,” Rogers told the magistrate.(KW)
