Court hears cases of persons from Carnival lock-up
The Serious Offences Court was abuzz on Wednesday morning as persons who had been locked up over the Carnival weekend finally had their day in court.{{more}}
Many of the cases that came before the court were for drug and weapon possession.
Most of the drug cases ranged from possessing between eight and 29 grams of cannabis; those found guilty were required to pay fines ranging from $400 to $750.
Regarding the weapons, persons were charged for having pairs of scissors in their possession; they stated that they were carrying them for their own protection.
The fines in those cases were between $200 and $700.
Most of the arrests took place between the night of the Soca Monarch competition, July 5 and Carnival Tuesday, July 8.
Magistrate Zoila Ellis-Browne presided over the proceedings.
