Rockies resident pleads guilty to theft, sentenced to two months

Rockies resident Jerry Grant will spend the next two months in prison for stealing money from a 73-year-old man.

Magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias imposed the sentence yesterday at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court after Grant, 42, pleaded guilty to the charge{{more}} of theft.

He was charged with stealing $110 from Alsion Rodney, 73, a security guard of the same address.

According to the facts, at about 7 a.m. on June 1, Rodney returned home from his shift and went straight to bed. While lying on his bed, he observed someone in a red T-shirt entering his porch and making their way into the living room.

Rodney went to investigate and saw it was the Grant, whom he said he knows well.

He noticed that Grant was standing next to a table where he had placed his wallet. However, when he checked, Rodney did not see his wallet. When Rodney asked Grant about the wallet, Grant threw it in his face and walked out of the house.

The matter was reported to the police and Grant was subsequently arrested and charged.

While in police custody, Grant admitted to taking the money from Rodney’s wallet.

He further stated in court that he was “drunk and [in]toxicated.”(KW)
