Another prisoner makes messy escape from Magistrate’s Court

Using what now seems to be a preferred method, a prisoner tried to escape police custody last Thursday.

Paul’s Avenue resident, Bernard “Doctor” Shallow threw faeces in the direction of an auxiliary police officer before escaping custody.((more}}

According to the facts, Shallow had appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court and had been found guilty on a charge of theft and sentenced to one month in jail.

While in court, he began making noises and as a result was taken to the holding cell, just downstairs the Serious Offences Court. While there, Shallow continued making noise and then did the unthinkable.

He defecated on himself, placed his hands in his underwear and attempted to throw faeces on the officer. The officer did not approach Shallow and the prisoner made good on his escape. Later that day, at about 3 p.m., a clean Shallow was apprehended in Paul’s Avenue and was taken back into custody.

When he appeared at the court the following day, he pleaded guilty to escaping lawful custody and assault.

He was slapped with the two-year sentence for escaping lawful custody and a six-month sentence for assault. The sentences will run consecutively.

Shallow told the court that he had just been released from prison and did not want to go back.

It is not the first time a prisoner has escaped police custody using faeces as his weapon. This method was used in August 2011 by Denver Oliver, 36, of Calliaqua. When caught the following week, he was sentenced to 18 months in prison for escaping lawful custody. Joe Bobb was the next man to leave the court in a mess, which he did on Monday, August 29, 2011. On Thursday, March 8, 2012 Grafton McDowall also escaped using the same method.
