Men charged for having 1,999 pounds of marijuana

Six men will appear again before Chief Magistrate Sonya Young at the Serious Offences Court for further directions on March 3, in answer to charges for having in their possession 907,546 grams (1,999 pounds) of cannabis with intent to supply.{{more}}

The six men, Godfrey Cumberbatch of Glen, Ezekiel Robin (Clare Valley), Calvert Prince (Petit Bordel), Daniel Baptiste (Petit Bordel), Ragiv de Shong (Redemption Sharpes) and Denzil Sam (Ottley Hall), were also charged with having in their possession an additional 3,632 grams (8 pounds) of cannabis with intent to supply.

The court heard that the men were intercepted off the coast of Chateaubelair on February 20, during a joint operation between the Coastguard, Rapid Response Unit and Drug Squad.

There was no objection to bail by the prosecution and bail was set at $100,000 with two sureties. The men were required to surrender all travel documents, and they will not be allowed to leave the state without the permission of the court.

Cumberbatch was ordered to report to the Calliaqua Police Station between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Mondays and Fridays, while Prince and Baptiste were to report at the Chateaubelair Police Station, Robin, the Questelles Police Station and de Shong and Sam at the Central Police Station. (DD)
