Layou resident charged with attempted murder

Layou resident Vivian Gibbs has been charged with the attempted murder of fellow villager Delano “Smokes” Patrick.{{more}}

Gibbs appeared at the Serious Offences Court on Tuesday and was not required to plead to the charge, which was laid indictably.

Chief Magistrate Sonya Young granted bail in the sum of $15,000 with one surety.

According to reports, on February 15, at Layou, it is alleged that Gibbs struck Patrick with a cutlass on his shoulder and both hands, resulting in him losing four fingers on his left hand.

The chief magistrate ordered that Gibbs report to the Layou Police Station twice per week and surrender his travel documents.

He is also to have no contact with Patrick.

The matter was adjourned to May 9 for hearing and the prosecution is expected to call 10 witnesses in the matter.
