Mozet John did not waste the court’s time when she pleaded guilty to possessing 25 grams of cannabis on February 1, at Port Elizabeth, Bequia.

Chief Magistrate Sonya Young fined John $200 forthwith, with an alternative of two weeks in jail.

According to information reaching the Serious Offences Court, at about 6:40 p.m., acting on information, Police Constable 510 Jacobs and other police officers went to the wharf in Port Elizabeth where John had just embarked from a vessel.

John who had several bags in her possession at the time, was approached by Jacobs, who then took her to the police station.

While there, a search was conducted on the bags and in a black plastic bag, loose material resembling cannabis was found.

John was then taken to the washroom by the female officer, and a search conducted on her person. A small Ziploc transparent bag containing marijuana was found in her bra.

When cautioned, John told officers that someone gave her the bag to take to someone.

However, in court, John told the magistrate that the drug found in her bra belonged to her and noted that she did not know anything about the drug found in the bag.
