Welcome resident charged with murder

Ian Abbott’s next court appearance will be before the Serious Offences Court when it sits later this week.{{more}}

Abbott, 33, a labourer of Welcome, appeared before the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court on Friday, January 3, but was not allowed to plea to the charge of murder of Adrian Thomas, 32, sailor also of the same address.

Abbott was scheduled to appear at the Serious Offences Court yesterday, but SEARCHLIGHT was informed that the Chief Magistrate Sonya Young was not feeling well.

When Abbott goes before the Chief Magistrate, a date will be set for the hearing of the Preliminary Inquiry.

It is alleged that on December 30, during an altercation over a pair of shoes, Thomas sustained a stab wound to his chest, to which he later succumbed.

Abbott remains in custody.(KW)
