Gellizeau, Robinson in need of medical treatment – lawyers

Lawyers for prisoner Antonio “Que Pasa” Gellizeau say their client has not been granted permission to seek medical attention from a specialist doctor for back problems he has been experiencing.{{more}}

This was brought to the attention of the High Court on Friday, March 1.

Gellizeau and Bermudian Winston Robinson, 71, are currently awaiting sentencing from the High Court after being convicted on March 9, 2012, at the Serious Offences Court on money laundering charges.

Gellizeau’s attorney, Shiraz Aziz, told the court that Gellizeau needs to see doctors for a back problem and other muscle aches that he has been experiencing.

Aziz said Gellizeau has been told by doctors, independent of the prison, that he needs to be seen by specialists, which would mean that he has to move from the prison to an external institution.

The UK based lawyer added that three doctors have already put in writing that Gellizeau needs to see a specialist outside of the prison.

The lawyer said on one occasion, Gellizeau was taken to a medical institution, but there was a bomb scare and Gellizeau had to be taken back to prison.

According to Aziz, there was never any attempt to take him back to seek medical treatment.

Winston Robinson’s medical condition was also highlighted, as it was stated that he is in need of a hearing aid.

Aziz said that the Bermudian man has been experiencing hearing difficulties in both ears.

He added that Robinson can’t afford to purchase a hearing aid, since he has no ties or family in St Vincent.

Presiding judge Wesley James made an order that Gellizeau be taken to see a specialist outside of the prison and for Robinson’s matter to be looked into.(KW)
