Long Wall resident Wendell O’Neal, 30, and Chad Jacobs, 29, of Arnos Vale, pleaded not guilty to the charge of burglary when they appeared before magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

It is alleged that the men entered the Grenville Street branch of the popular fast food outlet between February 26 and 27 and made off with an electronic vault containing $13,600.35.

The vault is said to have a value of $15,000.

Prosecutor Inspector Glenford Gregg objected to the men’s bail on the grounds that the police are still carrying out investigations into the matter and if given bail, O’Neal and Jacobs would hamper the investigations.

Gregg added that the police are also still trying to recover “certain things” that are important to the case.

Appearing on the men’s behalf, attorney Grant Connell told the court that O’Neal voluntarily went to the police station after he was told that police had been asking about him.

“You can have them report every day to the police station. The police are just carrying us on a fishing trip. Charging on hearsay…,” Connell added.

In setting bail conditions, Browne-Matthias placed the men on a 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew and ordered them to report to the Central Police Station three times per week.

The matter was adjourned to April 15 for hearing.(KW)
