Halfway through his trial last week, at the Serious Offences Court, Lewis changed his not guilty plea to guilty and was sentenced to two and a half years for possession of a 12-gauge shot gun and a year for possession of six rounds of 12-gauge ammunition.
The sentences will run concurrently.
During his trial, police officers, who were investigating Lewis on another matter, went to his Walvaroo home and found the gun hidden in the yard between some blocks, on September 5, 2012.
The bullets were found in a bag inside the house.
Lewis, who was unrepresented at trial, told the court that, âsome police come and tell me them war search de place so I carry them to where I live…,â Lewis said.
The 20 year old said a friend of his had left the gun and the bullets there. He also said that the police never showed him a search warrant before they began searching.
In assisting with mitigation, attorney Grant Connell said Lewis did not waste the courtâs time and that he had a troubled childhood, during which he was abused.
His legal troubles are far from over.
Next month, Lewis will reappear at the Serious Offences Court when the Preliminary Inquiry into the shooting death of Uroy âLaybayâ Robertson is expected to commence.
Lewis is charged with murdering the 24 year old on September 2, 2012 at Walvaroo.
Robertson died from a single gunshot wound to the left side of his head. The bullet destroyed his brain, then lodged in his right cheek.(KW)
