Senator Frederick faces more charges

New Democratic Party (NDP) senator Vynnette Frederick has again been charged. Frederick, who is already facing charges relating to three counts of perjury, was on Friday, February 15 slapped with three additional charges.{{more}}

Frederick, 36, appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court and pleaded not guilty to three counts of “falsely swearing before Ms Faye James, a person authorised to administer the oath”, at Kingstown on January 1, 2011 and May 23, 2012, a police report said.

Frederick was first charged back in September 2012 and granted $10,000 bail after pleading not guilty to three charges relating to three counts of perjury.

All matters have been transferred for hearing at the Mesopotamia Court for March 6.

SEARCHLIGHT understands that Magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias has recused herself from hearing the matters, citing familiarity.

The charges stem from a judgement handed down by the OECS Court of Appeal on May 31, 2012, which indicated that Frederick intentionally gave evidence which was untrue, in a complaint she brought against Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves, following the 2010 general elections.

Frederick’s complaints against the Prime Minister related to alleged comments made by Gonsalves at a public meeting of the Unity Labour Party at Park Hill on August 29, 2010.(KW)
