And for this drunken act, High Court judge Wesley James, on Wednesday, sentenced Williams to six years imprisonment for kidnapping.

Williams pleaded guilty to the charge.

The 27-year-old Georgetown resident was sentenced to a further 12 months in jail for assault, causing actual bodily harm.

The sentences will, however, run concurrently.

On March 30, 2012, at about 7 p.m., the child’s mother secured her home with her two children inside and went to bed.

At about about 4:30 a.m. on March 31, she was awakened by a loud noise. When she got up to investigate, the woman saw Williams walking in the direction of her children’s bedroom.

Williams went into the bedroom, picked up the five-year-old and proceeded to exit the house.

The court heard that the mother shouted “aye!” and then called the child’s name. Williams then began to run with the child.

Williams then dropped the girl, picked her up from the ground and then began running with her again.

The child again fell from his arms, but this time, Williams kept running and made his escape over a galvanised fence.

A report was made to the police and Williams was arrested.

In a police statement, Williams said he was out liming with some friends and drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana.

“Friday, I went and lime. About 4:30 a.m., I was drinking many liquors and I lost my head. Me tell me pardna dem I going home; me pass my yard and go in my neighbour yard…,’’ the statement read.

Williams said he went to his neighbour’s house and entered through her kitchen door.

“… I go in the bedroom. I see a child, I lift up the child and when I go into the kitchen, I hear somebody say “aye”. Me lost me head. Me head been real bad. I think bin my house. I live close to (calls mother’s name)…”

Williams said he took up the child because he thought it was his family’s child. In his statement, he also said he had drunk four bottles of strong rum and smoked a lot of marijuana.

The child suffered minor injuries.

In court, Williams said there was a girl at his home around the same age.(KW)
