Roderick Jones eager to serve people of SVG
A teacher and specialist in English who was called to the Bar on Friday has pledged to pursue justice constantly and to defend fiercely the best interests of his clients.{{more}}
Roderick Jones said he has a special interest in abused children and is anxiously looking forward to serving the people of St Vincent and the Grenadines, particularly those in Union Island.
Jones was called to the Bar in St Vincent and the Grenadines as a barrister and solicitor of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court.
He is a past student of St Martinâs Secondary School.
He taught for two years after graduating from the institution and then pursued a two-year certificate programme in teacher education at the St Vincent Teachersâ College.
After he successfully completed the programme, he spent four years at the Union Island Secondary School, where he taught mathematics and English language.
In 1996, he began a three-year degree programme in literatures in English at the University of the West Indies, where he also focussed heavily on economics.
He graduated in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) degree, upper second class honours. He was then transferred to the Bethel High School. By 2005, he was elevated to head of the English Department and held this position until he went off to England in 2010.
Jones started law in 2002 through the University of London Distance Programme. During this period he was heavily involved in tutoring adult evening classes, as well as the Police Band Cadets. He also volunteered at the Police Training School as a part time lecturer. He completed his law degree and graduated with a Bachelor of Laws â LLB (Hons).
In 2010, Jones moved to England to complete his legal studies. He did a graduate diploma in law at BBP Law School, London, and then moved on to the Bar Professional Training Course, a postgraduate diploma, at the College of Law in Birmingham. Jones completed his studies in 2012 and was called to the Bar of England and Wales on November 22, 2012 at the Honourable Society of Lincolns Inn.
Jones is the second son of Reynold Jones (deceased) and Edna Jones of Clifton, Union Island.
He has two siblings: Everad Jones, a final year pharmacology student in Grenada and Chrislon Jones, a medical doctor and lecturer at St Georgeâs University in Grenada. Roderick Jones is married to La fleur Jones and together they have three children: Rodika, Larika, and Laron.
