Criminal Assizes 2013 open next week

The first Criminal Assizes for 2013 will open on February 5, 2013, at the High Court in Kingstown.There are 55 cases listed for hearing at these assizes.{{more}}

At the last assizes, which closed on December 19, 2012, the prosecution, headed by Director of Public Prosecutions Colin Williams, managed to deal with 32 of the 61 matters listed for trial.

The total prison population now stands at 432.
