Hackshaw, who pleaded guilty at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court on Monday, to stealing two Blackberry Smartphones between August 17 and September 11, was placed on a $2,000 bond for six months.

In default, Hackshaw will go to prison for six months.

The phones were the property of St Clair Investments Ltd.

The court heard that Shanda Boyea of St Clair Investments, located at Stoney Ground, reported the theft of two Blackberry Curve smartphones from the business.

Police officers investigated and as a result, they were led to a woman living at Prospect. She was taken into custody and handed over one of the cellular phones.

Based on what the woman told police, Hackshaw, a security guard at Super J supermarket at Stoney Ground was arrested. He handed over the other cellular phone to the police officers.

Senior Magistrate Donald Browne described Hackshaw’s run-in with the law as “stupid”.

“As a security man, how you turn out to be this? Young man like you. I don’t understand why you put yourself in this position,” Browne said.

“These cell phones are turning these chaps into criminals. You’re a very stupid young man. Instead of you keeping your job, you dirty your copy book.”(KW)
