Young was convicted by a nine-member mixed jury on June 14, at the High Court’s Criminal Assizes on the charges of attempted murder and aggravated burglary.

On May 2, 2010, at about 3:00 am, Young entered Toby’s home at Victoria Village and demanded sex from her. When the then 17-year-old girl told him no, Young went into the kitchen, grabbed a cutlass and chopped her repeatedly about her body.

The vicious attack resulted in Toby sustaining severe chop wounds to her head, which punctured the lining of her brain. She was also chopped at the front and back of her neck. Chops were also inflicted on her back, shoulder and both hands. One of her fingers was also severed.

Throughout the trial, Young maintained his innocence and told the court he was never at Toby’s home when the incident occurred.

Attorney Grant Connell represented Young in the matter and Carl Williams led the crown’s case.(KW)
