He testified that he was not even at her house at around 3:00 a.m. on May 2, 2010.

Young, who is currently facing charges of attempted murder and aggravated burglary at the High Court, took the witness stand on Wednesday, June 13, after Toby testified the day before that he had asked her for sex and then viciously attacked her with a cutlass, resulting in her having to seek medical treatment in Trinidad.

Young told the jury that he went to Rabacca with some friends about 2:00 p.m. on May 1, 2010, and returned home to Victoria Village about 12:30 a.m. on May 2. He said he then went to the home of the sister of his ex-girlfriend, but she (Nadia Matthews) was not there.

Young said he then went to the nearby residence of Nadia’s grandmother and met her there.

“I got some clothes from by Nadia and went up and bathe by she grandmother,” he said.

Young said when he came back down to the house, he was in the living room chatting with Nadia and her ex-boyfriend, Daron Williams, when he received a telephone call from someone stating that “Squingy geh chop up the road”.

“I went by the curtain and I tell Nadia what happened and me, she and she boyfriend go up the road…,” he said.

While walking, Young said he received another telephone call, but he did not say what that call was about. He added that he received yet another telephone call, which was from his boss, who told him to meet him at Belmont gap to go pick fruits on the leeward side of the island.

He said he got a ride from a friend and went to Belmont.

“I never do that young lady anything and I will never do her anything. I didn’t go to that house,” he declared.

Crown Counsel Carl Williams, during cross-examination, put it to Young that Nadia’s boyfriend testified that he never went up the road with him and that he only saw him after the incident. Young said that was not true.

When Matthews was called to the stand as witness for the defence, led by Grant Connell, she said while at home, she received a telephone call from her boyfriend.

“He ask who and me dey home and I tell him me and Bun up… I went outside on the steps and I wait for him and then when he come, we went into the house together,” she said.

The woman said both of them went into the bedroom and were on the bed talking. She said she heard a door open in the house and when she checked, it was Bun Up sitting on the porch.

“I left the door open and went back to the bedroom… I went to bed about 4:00 a.m. When I hear Bun Up phone ring, I say, ‘Bun up, answer yo phone,’ and he answer.”

Matthews said Young then came to her bedroom door and told her that people were saying that Squingy was dead.

“The phone ring again and Bun Up say, ‘What allyo calling me name in?’ I asked him what happen and he say Squingy say he chop she up…,” she added.

Under cross-examination, Matthews said Bun up was never in the same bedroom with her and her boyfriend, nor were they having a conversation in the living room.

Both sides have already addressed the jury on the matter and presiding judge, Wesley James was expected to give a summation on the matter yesterday.

The verdict should have also been announced yesterday.(KW)
