Clayton Warren was charged on Monday, in connection with the death of Nickie, whose lifeless body was discovered on the morning of Friday, April 27, at his home at Questelle Piece, South Rivers.

“When I wake up, my nephew tell me uncle dead and when I shake him, he was dead,” Yannette Nickie, Denole’s sister, told SEARCHLIGHT.

According to reports, the day before his death, Nickie was engaged in a confrontation with another resident of the community while on a work site.

He was reportedly beaten by the individual with a piece of iron.

Yannette said the day before he died, her brother told her that he was beaten up because he refused to share his rum.

“…When he came home, I ask him, ‘Denole wha happen to yo?’ He say, ‘Saffy me ain’t do [named person] nothing. He just beat me up for rum, cigarette and food’,” Yannette said.

“He never got himself in any violent confrontations and he was always cool and helpful to everybody in the community,” she said.

“He couldn’t fight,” she added.

The woman, however, disclosed that Denole drank excessively.

“That was the only problem with him. Because when he drunk he use to curse plenty,” she added.

Denole’s younger brother Steve Dasilva said he was shocked to have learned about the death of his brother and the circumstances under which he died.

He informed SEARCHLIGHT that the day before his brother died, the two of them had a disagreement and were not on terms.

“We had a little argument, but I know Denise is a cool man and after I get vex, I left and went about my business and he went his way. All during the day, we ain’t see each other and even when I reach home I ain’t know wha’ been going on.”

He said the next day he was told by his son that Denole had died.

“I couldn’t believe that. Is then I check the scene and find out what happen,” Steve said.

“He ain’t been deserve that kind of beating, man,” Steve said.

Reports are that after the incident between Denole and the other individual, Denole, though injured, was able to “drag himself home”.

Clayton Warren appeared at the Serious Offences Court on Monday charged with the murder of Nickie. He was remanded in custody. The preliminary inquiry into Nickie’s death has been set for July 23.

The Criminal Investigations Department of the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force says Nickie’s death is the seventh homicide for the year.
