Lawyer’s son quizzed over fake EC$ 50 bill

Counterfeit Eastern Caribbean dollars as well as Barbadian dollars are being circulated on the market.{{more}}

On Saturday, June 19, 2010, the son of a prominent lawyer was taken to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) by police officers where he was questioned about a fake EC$50 bill spent at a business here.

Also, on June 18, 2010, Carl Pope, a 34-year-old Chauffeur of Sandy Bay was arrested and charged on two counts of tendering two EC$50 bills on June 13, 2010.

Pope pleaded not guilty on both charges when he appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court. The matter has been transferred to the Biabou Magistrate’s Court for July 14, 2010.

SEARCHLIGHT understands that the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (CIC) has been informed by some businesses here that they have fallen prey to fake Barbados dollars that are in circulation.
