Jailed for bad mouth

Mecca Earp, an 18-year-old woman of Green Hill, was highly peeved when police officers confiscated her marijuana, so she cursed them.

For her actions, Chief Magistrate Sonya Young sentenced the young woman to one week’s imprisonment for using indecent language.{{more}}

At the Serious Offences Court on Thursday, May 21, 2009, the court heard that members of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) were on mobile patrol in the area of Bloc 2000, where the woman was met sitting with a group of men. One officer observed that she had loose marijuana in her hand. The officer then took the marijuana from her and threw it away. Earp then said, “Look the man throw way my (expletive) weed.”

Upon her guilty plea, Magistrate Sonya Young asked the woman how she felt now that she was going to jail for her conduct. Earp replied, “How me feel? How me feel? Ah you send me ah prison.”(KW)
