Three to be sentenced for Western Union robbery

Two Grenadian nationals: John Raymond and Sabrina Phillips, along with Vincentian Aaron Francois, should have already been sentenced at the High Court in Kingstown after pleading guilty to robbing the Western Union branch in Bequia on January 15, 2008.{{more}}

However, on Tuesday, January 20th, the fourth person charged, Orlando Spencer of Bequia/Trinidad who was out on bail, was absent from court and it was not certain if he was still in the state. A summons was ordered for Spencer’s surety to appear in Court.

The quartet was arrested and charged last year for holding Joan Davis at gunpoint in broad daylight and relieved her EC$12,300 in cash, US$839 in cash and cheques amounting to EC$660, the property of Western Union Money Transfer.

Attorney for Francois and Phillips, Ronald Marks said that he needed time to prepare proper mitigation for his clients on such a serious matter. Phillips, who was pregnant when she was arrested last year, told the court that she was pregnant again. However, she was granted bail in the sum of $10,000 with two sureties.

Raymond and Francois were both remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison. (KW)
